First Impressions
"To Be a Power in the Shadows!" definitely grabbed my attention with its unique premise. An isekai story centered around a protagonist obsessed with being a "shadowbroker" type character? I was immediately intrigued. The blend of action, comedy, and fantasy seemed like a recipe for a fun and engaging read. I went in expecting something over-the-top and a little ridiculous, and I wasn't disappointed.
What Works Well
The biggest draw for me is undoubtedly Cid, the main character. His complete dedication to his chuunibyou fantasies, coupled with his genuine OP abilities, creates a hilarious and compelling dynamic. The misunderstandings that arise from his actions are pure comedic gold, and I found myself constantly laughing at the absurdity of the situations he gets into. Many readers seem to agree that the humor and the unique way the author moves the story along keep it from getting boring, even with an overpowered protagonist. The side characters, especially those in Shadow Garden, are also quite memorable, each possessing unique quirks and contributing to the overall charm of the story.
