Description

First Impressions
"Story of The Ancient Demon King!" certainly grabbed my attention with its premise. A protagonist obsessed with classic hero vs. villain narratives gets reincarnated and decides to become the ultimate Demon King, only to orchestrate his own defeat at the hands of a hero he'll groom himself? Sounds like a fun twist on familiar tropes. I dove in hoping for a blend of action, comedy, and maybe a touch of self-aware absurdity.
What Works Well
The core concept is undeniably appealing. I appreciate the potential for humor and the subversion of expectations. The idea of a Demon King who's secretly a justice-seeker resonates with me, and I think the story shines when it leans into this duality. There's a definite charm to the protagonist's attempts to be "evil" while his actions often lean toward the heroic. Some readers have noted the world-building is decent, focusing on the human side, and that the story, at its heart, is solid.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, my experience wasn't without its issues. The most glaring problem, and one that many readers echoed, is the quality of the translation. It's rough, often confusing, and can significantly detract from the reading experience. Sentences are sometimes nonsensical, character names are misspelled inconsistently, and the overall flow feels disjointed.
