My Thoughts on Re:Monster

"Re:Monster" is quite the ride, and not always in a good way. It's a web novel that throws you headfirst into a world of monster evolution, ability stealing, and… well, a whole lot more that might not be for everyone.

First Impressions

Initially, I was hooked. The premise of a reincarnated human becoming a goblin and clawing his way up the food chain is undeniably appealing. The early chapters promised a dark, gritty survival story with a protagonist who, while not exactly a saint, had a certain relatable edge. The accelerated growth and unique "eat-to-gain-abilities" mechanic were also intriguing.

What Works Well

The power progression is definitely a draw. Watching Rou, the main character, evolve and acquire new skills is satisfying, especially if you're into OP protagonists. Some also find the world-building compelling, particularly the growing community and the introduction of diverse characters, even if their screen time is limited. The novel also commits to the monster perspective, portraying a world where survival often means embracing ruthless tactics. For some, this unapologetic approach is a strength.
