"Reborn as the Hero’s Daughter! Time to Become the Hero Once More!" is quite a ride, and after diving into it, I can see why it has a mixed reception. The premise is definitely intriguing: an ex-assassin reincarnated as the daughter of his former comrades. But the execution? Well, that’s where things get a little bumpy.

First Impressions

Initially, I was hooked by the unique setup. A gender-bent reincarnation story with a protagonist who retains his skills and memories? Yes, please! The idea of seeing how Raid/Nicole navigates this new life, especially with his past relationships now turned into familial ones, promised a lot of potential.

What Works Well

The unique skillset of the main character, a stealthy assassin in a world of sword-swinging heroes, definitely sets this story apart. I appreciate that he's not just another carbon copy isekai protagonist. The focus on espionage and behind-the-scenes maneuvering adds a layer of complexity that I found refreshing. Also, the connections to the author's other works, like Hakai Me no Yuuri, are a nice touch for long-time fans, creating a sense of a larger, interconnected world.

Areas of Concern

However, the story isn't without its flaws. The MC's personality, particularly the initial attitude towards his new parents, rubbed me the wrong way. The extreme reaction to breastfeeding, stemming from past-life trauma, felt forced and created a disconnect. I also found myself questioning some of the plot contrivances, especially the prolonged secret identity and the seeming obliviousness of those around Nicole. It stretches believability a bit too thin, making it hard to fully invest in the narrative at times.
