My Thoughts on New Times, New Hell
"New Times, New Hell" immediately grabbed my attention with its quirky premise: a modern-day Hell operating as a company, desperately in need of a tech upgrade. The fusion of ancient beliefs and modern technology is a concept ripe with comedic potential, and from what I've read, this novel delivers on that promise.
First Impressions
The initial chapters are a whirlwind of humor as Yu Zhengdu, our programmer MC, stumbles into this supernatural workplace. The world-building is surprisingly intricate, with a clear understanding of how a bureaucratic Hell would adapt to the 21st century. It's a refreshing take on the supernatural genre, and the author's creativity shines through. I am eager to continue reading this unique and interesting story.
What Works Well
The characters are a definite highlight. Yu Zhengdu is a grounded and competent protagonist, handling the bizarre with a level-headedness that's both relatable and amusing. The ML, a powerful Ghost King acting as CEO, is a delightful contrast – aloof and prideful, yet endearingly clueless in human matters. Their dynamic, a slow-burn romance built on trust and mutual respect, is a refreshing change from insta-love tropes. The side characters are also memorable, each contributing to the chaotic charm of this underworld company. The comedic timing is spot-on.
Areas of Concern
While the series is overwhelmingly positive, some readers found the plot becomes repetitive after a while. The overarching narrative seems to take a backseat to episodic scenarios. Also, the romance might be too subtle for readers seeking a more passionate love story. Some also found the ML to be immature despite his age.

Final Verdict
Despite minor flaws, "New Times, New Hell" is a highly enjoyable read. It's a light-hearted comedy with a unique premise, well-developed characters, and a refreshing take on the supernatural genre. If you're looking for a fun, non-angsty story with a blend of slice-of-life, fantasy, and a dash of romance, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this novel a try. Just be prepared for some face-slapping and a healthy dose of socialist undertones (apparently intended as a gag!).
