Mitou Shoukan://Blood-Sign Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Mitou Shoukan://Blood-Sign
I dove into Mitou Shoukan://Blood-Sign with a mix of excitement and trepidation, given its high overall rating and intriguing premise. It's a novel with a unique system centered around summoners and vessels, and I was eager to see how it all played out. After reading a large portion of the translated works, I have to say it's a mixed bag, but with some definite strengths.
First Impressions
The initial volumes were a bit of a struggle, I won't lie. The world-building, while unique, is incredibly dense. The fighting system, with its "Incense Grenades" and "White Thorns," felt overly complicated and took a while to grasp. It's definitely not a story you can breeze through without paying attention, and for some, that might be a turn-off.
What Works Well
Once I got past the initial learning curve, I found myself appreciating the story's originality. The power system is a breath of fresh air compared to the typical cultivation or RPG-like leveling systems. The protagonist is also a strong point. He's not your typical weak-willed JP MC; he has a backbone and a strong sense of justice, often helping people and solving problems in a "private detective" sort of way. This focus on plot over repetitive leveling is a huge plus for me.
The character of the White Queen is another highlight. She's a compelling and powerful antagonist, and her interactions with the MC are fascinating. Many readers seem to be drawn to her, and I can see why. She's not your typical villain, and her motivations, though disturbing, are intriguing. The story's ability to create a complex and morally gray antagonist is commendable.
Areas of Concern
While the story has many strengths, it's not without its flaws. The complexity of the world-building and fighting system can be overwhelming, and the author sometimes repeats information, which can slow down the pace. There's also the matter of the MC's personality. While his strong moral compass is admirable, it can sometimes come across as naive or even frustrating. Some readers might find his "savior" complex a bit much, and his inability to resolve certain conflicts quickly can be irritating.

Final Verdict
Overall, Mitou Shoukan://Blood-Sign is a unique and engaging novel with a complex world, interesting characters, and a compelling plot. However, its dense world-building and occasionally frustrating protagonist may not appeal to all readers. If you're willing to invest the time and effort to understand the intricacies of the story, you'll likely find it to be a rewarding read. I'd recommend giving it a try, but be prepared for a bit of a learning curve.
