This novel has definitely left an impression! I went in expecting a fairly standard rebirth story, but I found a narrative that, while using familiar tropes, manages to offer a fresh perspective on healing, self-discovery, and second chances.

First Impressions

The premise is intriguing: Chen Mo, after a life filled with abuse and resentment, gets a chance to relive his youth. Instead of pursuing revenge, he decides to focus on his health and well-being, severing ties with his toxic family. This immediately sets it apart from typical revenge-focused rebirth stories. It's a premise that really grabbed my attention, and I was eager to see how it would play out.

What Works Well

I particularly enjoyed the character development, especially Chen Mo's journey. He's not a Mary Sue, but a flawed individual grappling with past trauma. His decision to prioritize his own well-being and build genuine connections resonated with me. The romance with Xi Siyan is a slow burn, and I appreciated how their relationship progressed naturally. They support each other, and their interactions feel genuine. I also liked that the leads were very understanding of their own emotions, willing to think and work through it and there wasn't much miscommunication/slow burn. The author does a great job of portraying the complexities of human relationships and how childhood experiences can shape a person's life. The friendship aspect of the novel is also really well done.

Areas of Concern

While the overall story is compelling, I did find some aspects could be improved. Several readers mentioned the translation quality, with some suspecting MTL (Machine Translation). This can sometimes make it difficult to fully immerse yourself in the story. Also, some readers felt like the business rivalry arc wasn't executed as well as it could have been.
