Description
Qi Xu was brought back to his wealthy birth family at the age of 18. At 28, he died in that same wealthy family. Looking back on those ten years, Qi Xu realized he hadn’t exactly acted like a decent human being. To show that he was mature and understanding, he actually turned down the jewels, luxury cars, houses, and yachts his biological parents gave him—completely wasting their good intentions. He spent his whole life trying to prove that he was in no way inferior to the fake young master, only to end up betrayed by everyone, cast out by his loved ones, and die a tragic death after falling down the stairs. Now reborn, Qi Xu decided: this time, he’s taking everything with him. On the first day Qi Xu was brought back to the Shen family, Mr. and Mrs. Shen prepared two sapphires for both the real and fake young masters. The fake young master was so “understanding” it hurt: “I already have plenty of gems, Mom. Can I donate this to help build a school for the kids in the mountains?” Qi Xu, receiving a gemstone for the first time, stared unblinkingly: “Mom, can you buy me a safe to store my gems?” When college started, the Shen couple gave each of the boys an apartment in a good school district to make studying easier. The fake young master politely declined as usual: “Dad, I haven’t even stayed in the seaside villa yet. Let’s give the school apartment to someone who really needs it.” Qi Xu accepted smoothly: “Thanks, Dad. I’ll move in right away.” While everyone was praising the fake young master for being sensible and not materialistic, Qi Xu was already collecting rent from the school apartment. And the tenant? It was none other than the fake young master’s childhood friend — the golden boy of the Xie family, Xie Huai, born at the top of the pyramid. On rent day, Qi Xu knocked on Xie Huai’s door: “Time to pay rent.” Xie Huai had just come out of the shower, casually drying his half-wet hair. “It’s Valentine’s Day today. Any special discounts?” Qi Xu replied coolly: “Nope. Single dog like me doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.” Xie Huai leaned down and kissed the corner of Qi Xu’s lips. “Can’t I at least get a discount on utilities and half-off the rent?” Qi Xu gave a cold laugh: “Keep dreaming.” You can have the person, but the rent stays full price. This time around, Qi Xu took with him everything he didn’t have in his past life — including Xie Huai, who in the previous lifetime, had barely exchanged a few words with him.

My Thoughts on The Wolf-Hearted Young Master Just Wants to Lie Flat
"The Wolf-Hearted Young Master Just Wants to Lie Flat" promised a fun blend of rebirth, romance, and a touch of family drama, and for the most part, it delivered a story that kept me engaged. While it wasn't without its flaws, the core narrative and the relationship between the main characters were strong enough to keep me invested.
First Impressions
The premise immediately hooked me. Our MC, reborn and determined to live a more relaxed life after a previous life filled with striving for unachievable familial affection, decides to embrace the "salted fish" lifestyle. This immediately sets the stage for a character who's both clever and a little bit jaded, a combination I always find appealing.
What Works Well
The dynamic between the MC and ML is definitely a highlight. Their initial bickering gradually evolves into a sweet and possessive relationship, and I found myself rooting for them. The ML's possessiveness, while sometimes bordering on extreme, added an interesting layer to his character. I also appreciated that the MC, despite his desire to "lie flat," wasn't a pushover. He knew how to stand up for himself and wasn't afraid to retaliate against those who wronged him. I also really enjoyed the found family aspect of the story, with the MC developing genuine friendships and strong bonds with his grandfather and dormmates. It added a heartwarming counterpoint to the more dramatic family conflicts.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did find some aspects a bit lacking. The antagonists, particularly the adopted son, felt somewhat one-dimensional and their schemes often felt repetitive. I also felt like the ending was a little rushed, especially regarding the adopted son's punishment. A more detailed resolution to his storyline would have been more satisfying. Additionally, some of the side characters and family members felt like caricatures, making it difficult to connect with them on a deeper level. It was also a bit confusing at times with the pacing and narration.

Final Verdict
Overall, "The Wolf-Hearted Young Master Just Wants to Lie Flat" is an enjoyable read if you're looking for a fluffy BL novel with a focus on character relationships and a dash of family drama. While it's not perfect, the strengths of the MC and ML's dynamic, along with the heartwarming friendships, outweigh the weaker aspects. I'd recommend it to those who enjoy rebirth tropes, possessive male leads, and a protagonist who's determined to live life on his own terms. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
