My Thoughts on The Sick Villain Just Want to Live
"The Sick Villain Just Want to Live" promised a cute romance, and for the most part, it delivered! I went in expecting a light read, and I wasn't disappointed. While it wasn't the most groundbreaking story I've ever encountered, it was definitely a pleasant way to spend my time.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn in by the premise of a sickly MC and a seemingly amiable ML. The initial setup was intriguing, and I was eager to see how their relationship would develop, especially with the added element of a system. The summary didn't quite prepare me for the depth of the characters, though.
What Works Well
The romance between Zhu Tong and Shao Ming is undoubtedly the highlight. Their dynamic is sweet and fluffy, with plenty of "dog food" moments. I especially appreciated how the ML dotes on the MC, and how the MC, despite his initial shyness, becomes more proactive as the story progresses. The system, while present, doesn't overwhelm the narrative, and I liked how it was cleverly integrated into the plot and used to reveal the ML's feelings. The pacing, while sometimes slow, allowed for a natural progression of their relationship. I also really enjoyed the character of MC's grandpa, he was a delight to read about!
Areas of Concern
The villains, unfortunately, were a bit of a letdown. Many felt they were one-dimensional and served more as plot devices than actual threats. The "rich bitch politics" and system aspects, while explained, sometimes dragged the story down. Additionally, the pacing could be uneven, with some plot points feeling rushed while others were drawn out unnecessarily. Some readers might find Shao Ming's actions a bit manipulative.
