“I was reincarnated as the wife of the protagonist from a long fantasy novel I devoured in my youth.” The protagonist’s wife, despite her title, had barely any presence in the story—just a character vaguely mentioned as a “wicked wife” in passing. The novel itself was a tale of warring heroes in a chaotic era, with nearly all main characters being men. It seemed like this wife existed solely as a convenient excuse for the stoic protagonist to avoid falling for any women during his adventures. As expected, my “heroic husband” marched off to battle on the day of our wedding and showed no signs of returning, continually moving from one battlefield to the next. Fine then. If that’s the case, I’ll take all this enormous reward money and wealth, and use it however I please!

The premise of an arranged marriage set against a backdrop of European nobility and world conquest immediately piqued my interest. I dove in expecting a passionate romance intertwined with political intrigue, and while I found aspects of both, the balance might not be what everyone expects.
What Works Well
The world-building is definitely a strong point. The author paints a vivid picture of the era, immersing you in the lives of nobles and the power struggles that define their existence. I particularly enjoyed the focus on the female lead's journey. While the romance might be slow-burn (extremely slow!), her silent support of the male lead as he navigates his path to power is compelling. There's a quiet strength in her character that I found admirable. The josei elements are also well-executed, offering a more mature and nuanced perspective on relationships and societal expectations.
Areas of Concern
My main reservation stems from the pacing of the romance, or rather, the distinct lack thereof. The interactions between the FL and ML felt minimal, leaving me wanting more connection and development between them. I felt the story was more about the ML's journey, with the FL playing a supporting role, albeit a significant one. I would have loved to see more appreciation directed towards the FL, not just from the ML, but from other characters as well. Also, the ending felt abrupt, focusing more on the ML's victory than the future of their relationship, which left me feeling a little unsatisfied.
