My Thoughts on We Live in Dragon’s Peak
"We Live in Dragon’s Peak" is a web novel that I found myself surprisingly enjoying, despite some initial reservations. It's a blend of action, adventure, comedy, and fantasy, with a dash of romance and harem elements thrown in for good measure. The story revolves around a cute, albeit somewhat timid, protagonist who finds himself in a world filled with dragons, beastkin, and other fantastical elements.
First Impressions
My first impression was a bit mixed, I'll admit. The protagonist, Ernea, starts off as a bit of a scaredy-cat. He's not exactly the Yun Che type, and some readers might find his initial timidity a bit off-putting. However, I appreciate that the author doesn't immediately transform him into an overpowered badass. His growth feels more organic, even if it's a bit slow.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is its world-building and character development. There's a real sense of depth to the characters, and I found myself invested in their individual journeys. The author does a good job of balancing action with slice-of-life elements, making the story feel engaging without being overly intense. The humor is also well-placed and adds a lighthearted touch to the narrative. The interactions between Ernea and his dragon companion are particularly amusing. The harem aspect is present, but it doesn't feel forced or gratuitous. The female characters are well-developed and have their own motivations and backstories, which adds to the overall appeal of the story.
Areas of Concern
The main criticism I have is Ernea's lack of… well, boldness. Even as he gains strength, he can still come across as whiny and indecisive. I also found the plot to be a bit meandering at times. While the character development is strong, the overall direction of the story can feel a bit unclear, especially as the chapters progress. Some may find the lack of a clear overarching plot frustrating.

Final Verdict
Overall, I'd give "We Live in Dragon’s Peak" a solid 4 out of 5. It's not a perfect novel, but it's an enjoyable read with well-developed characters, interesting world-building, and a good balance of action and slice-of-life elements. If you're a fan of dragons, character development, and don't mind a protagonist who starts off a bit timid, then this novel is definitely worth checking out.
