(Um, Sorry) I’ve Been Reincarnated! Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on (Um, Sorry) I’ve Been Reincarnated!
Okay, so I dove into "(Um, Sorry) I’ve Been Reincarnated!" with fairly open expectations. The premise seemed interesting enough – a reincarnation story with comedy and fantasy elements. I've read a lot of web novels, so I'm always on the lookout for something fresh. This one, however, proved to be a bit of a mixed bag.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked. The early chapters had a certain charm, especially the interactions between the main character and his new family. There was promise in the MC's backstory, hinting at a depth beyond the typical reincarnation tropes. I felt like this could be a story with a unique flavor.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect, for me, was the potential of the characters. When the story focuses on their thoughts, interactions, and dialogues, it shines. The translator also deserves major props. The translation quality is excellent, making the reading experience smooth and enjoyable. Some of the early slice-of-life elements were also quite endearing, offering a relaxing and heartwarming vibe.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the initial promise fades as the story progresses. The plot feels increasingly directionless, and the MC's overpowered nature becomes a significant detriment. The convenience with which he resolves conflicts undermines any sense of tension or stakes. I found myself less invested as the story went on. The writing style, particularly the first-person narration, can also become repetitive and cumbersome. The MC's inner monologues often felt like tangents, detracting from the overall narrative flow.

Final Verdict
Overall, "(Um, Sorry) I’ve Been Reincarnated!" is a somewhat disappointing read. While it starts strong with charming characters and a promising premise, it ultimately falters due to a weak plot, an overpowered MC, and repetitive writing. If you're looking for a lighthearted, low-stakes story with a focus on slice-of-life elements and don't mind a dense protagonist, you might find some enjoyment here. However, if you prefer a more engaging plot and meaningful character development, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. I'd give it a 2.5 out of 5.
