The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend
"The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend" presents an intriguing spin on the isekai genre, and I found myself quite drawn into its unfolding narrative. With a blend of action, adventure, and fantasy, it promises a journey through a world teeming with magic, fantasy creatures, and the complexities of human (and beastkin!) relationships.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, the synopsis paints a picture of a potentially overpowered protagonist. However, as I delved deeper, I discovered a character far more nuanced than your typical wish-fulfillment isekai hero. The initial chapters hooked me with their promise of adventure and a protagonist who, despite possessing remarkable abilities, prefers to navigate challenges through guidance and conversation.
What Works Well
The main character is definitely a highlight. He's got that roguish charm, a hint of hidden depth, and a surprising amount of empathy. This blend of qualities makes him relatable and engaging. I particularly enjoyed the way the story balances heartwarming moments with more serious, impactful themes. The world-building is also handled deftly, unfolding organically as the story progresses rather than overwhelming you with an early info dump. The translation quality is commendable too, making for a smooth and enjoyable reading experience. I appreciate how the author portrays a protagonist who strives to do his best without seeming to try too hard.
Areas of Concern
One minor drawback is the chapter length. I found myself wishing for longer installments, especially during more intense or emotionally charged moments. It feels like just as I'm getting truly invested, the chapter ends, leaving me wanting more.
Final Verdict
Despite the slightly short chapters, "The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend" offers a refreshing take on the isekai formula. The well-developed characters, intriguing world-building, and heartwarming-yet-serious storyline make it a worthwhile read. I'm eager to see where the story goes and how the protagonist continues to evolve. I'd recommend giving it a try if you're looking for an isekai with a bit more heart and depth.
