The initial chapters hooked me. Seeing the protagonist's descent into darkness after unimaginable torture and betrayal was compelling. I was ready for an edgy, morally gray tale. The medieval setting and the introduction of dark magic added to the appeal. However, that initial excitement waned as the story progressed.
What Works Well
The novel shines when it embraces its dark themes. The antihero protagonist, fueled by justifiable rage (at least initially), is a refreshing change from typical goody-two-shoes leads. I appreciated the world-building, particularly the exploration of the false goddess and the complex relationships between different races and kingdoms. The strategic elements of kingdom-building and army formation were also engaging. The side characters, such as Liscia and Chronos, add depth to the story, even if their development sometimes feels rushed.

My biggest issue lies with the inconsistent character motivations and the jarring POV shifts. The protagonist's actions often felt illogical, attacking random villages instead of focusing on those who wronged him. This made his "revenge on the world" seem less like a calculated plan and more like senseless violence.
