"Seven Days as a Villain" grabbed my attention with its premise: a villainous protagonist stuck in an otome game with a ticking clock. I dove in expecting a fairly typical transmigration story, but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a short read, which can be a blessing or a curse, but in this case, it mostly worked in the novel's favor.

What Works Well

What sets this story apart is its unapologetic protagonist. Uli, our MC, embraces his villainy, even after regaining memories of a past life. He doesn't suddenly become a saint, which I found refreshing. He's cunning, clever, and determined to survive, manipulating those around him to achieve his goals. I particularly enjoyed how he uses the "gongs" (the potential love interests) to his advantage, orchestrating events with a low-key finesse that's genuinely entertaining. The relationship with the ML, Tristan, is also intriguing. It's not a fluffy romance, but rather a twisted, possessive dynamic where loyalty is paramount. Tristan is essentially a "willing dog," acknowledging Uli's flaws yet remaining devoted. This isn't your typical "pure-hearted MC" scenario, and I appreciated the deviation from the norm. I thought the ending was well-executed, a fitting culmination of Uli's scheming, and it provided a satisfying sense of closure.

Areas of Concern

The novel's brevity is a double-edged sword. While it prevents the plot from dragging, I was left wanting more. I craved more exploration of the side characters and the political intrigue hinted at throughout the story. A few plot threads felt somewhat unresolved, and an extra chapter or two to address these would have been welcome.
