"Saikyou Mahoushi no Inton Keikaku (LN)" presents an interesting premise: a powerful mage wanting to retire and focus on research gets roped into attending a magic academy. I went in expecting a clever protagonist navigating school life while secretly being OP, but the reality seems a bit more complicated.
First Impressions
Initially, the world-building intrigued me. A post-apocalyptic setting with monsters called fiends, and a protagonist who's already at the top of his game, sounds like a recipe for an engaging power fantasy. The early volumes held promise, hinting at a grander plot and a darker world. However, some of that initial spark seems to fade as the story progresses.

The idea of a genius protagonist wanting to lay low is compelling, and the early focus on world-building does create a sense of mystery and foreboding.
