The beginning throws you right into the thick of it, with a long flashback detailing the complicated relationship between Zhou Xiang, our kind-hearted MC, and Yan Mingxiu, the younger, richer, and emotionally stunted ML. I immediately felt sympathy for Zhou Xiang, who finds himself entangled in a web of unrequited love and mistaken identity.

What Works Well

The author excels at creating flawed, complex characters. Yan Mingxiu is infuriatingly frustrating, but also, at times, pitiable.
