Initially, I was hooked. The idea of a character armed with game knowledge trying to rewrite fate is always appealing. I was eager to see how the protagonist would navigate the challenges of his new life and outsmart the hero. The early chapters did a decent job of establishing the world and the stakes.

The initial draw of the novel lies in its premise. The protagonist's dedication to making the heroine happy, even through "over-the-top effort," is endearing. It was hard to get over the fact that, despite a history of cruelty, the characters were quick to look past the protagonist’s actions and attribute it to sudden personal growth.
