"I Never Want to be a Younger Brother Again" is a wild ride through rebirths, cultivation, and a whole lot of misunderstanding. With only 87 chapters, I went in expecting a concise story, but what I got was a tangled web of drama and complex relationships.
First Impressions
The initial premise, a transmigration into a cultivation world where the MC becomes the ML's Shifu, definitely hooked me. I was ready for some classic master-disciple dynamics. However, it quickly became apparent that this novel was less about gentle guidance and more about navigating a minefield of miscommunication, which ultimately affected my enjoyment of the story.
What Works Well
Despite the drama, there's a lot to love. The characters, particularly the MC's children and a certain little duckling, are incredibly endearing and provided some much-needed lightheartedness. I appreciated the author's exploration of prejudice and the plight of the beastmen, even if it did contribute to the overall angst. While the relationship is complicated, many readers praise the Male Lead's ultimate redemption arc, even if it is a bit rocky along the way. And despite the issues I have with it, the world-building is interesting, giving a rich backdrop to the story.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue, and it seems I'm not alone, is the sheer volume of misunderstandings. It felt like every other chapter was a new conflict arising from a lack of communication, which grew tiresome after a while. I also struggled with the ML's initial actions. While the story attempts to justify his behavior, it left a bad taste in my mouth. The pacing also felt uneven at times, with certain plot points feeling rushed or unresolved.

"I Never Want to be a Younger Brother Again" is a flawed but ultimately engaging read. If you're a fan of xuanhuan, yaoi, and don't mind a heavy dose of drama and some morally grey areas, then this might be worth checking out. Just be prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions and a whole lot of face-palming moments. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. It has its charms, but the constant misunderstandings and problematic elements prevent it from being a truly great novel.
