I Don’t Dare to Oppose a Protagonist Anymore is a web novel that certainly left me with a lot to think about. It's a blend of xuanhuan, yaoi, and cultivation with a hefty dose of… well, a lot of things, some of which worked for me and some that definitely didn't.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise: a transmigrated MC trying to avoid a terrible fate by cozying up to the protagonist. The comedic undertones and the "fat to fit" journey seemed like they could offer a fresh take on the genre. I found myself enjoying the early chapters, especially the development of the relationship between the two male leads.
What Works Well
The concept of character growth for both the MC and ML is definitely a strong point. I appreciated that the MC wasn't immediately overpowered and had to work for his progress. The story also subverts typical transmigration tropes, making the MC a genuine supporting character who accepts his limitations. The adventure aspect is engaging, and the moments of comedy sprinkled throughout kept me entertained. I also found the MC's initial "otaku" personality relatable, and his journey to becoming more proactive felt believable.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, there are some significant issues that I can't ignore. The presence of non-consensual situations, including r*pe, is a major red flag. While the tags do warn about mature content, the way these scenes are handled seems problematic and potentially triggering. I also noticed that some found the ending to be abrupt and unsatisfying. Some also struggled with the writing style, which they felt lacked depth and maturity. The characters' actions sometimes felt illogical, and the plot suffered from inconsistencies.

However, the problematic content and writing flaws make it difficult for me to wholeheartedly recommend.
