Description

My Thoughts on Hachinan tte, Sore wa Nai Deshou! (LN)
"Hachinan tte, Sore wa Nai Deshou! (LN)" is a bit of a mixed bag for me. It's an isekai story with a clear leaning towards slice-of-life, featuring an overpowered protagonist in a feudal society. While it has its charms, it also stumbles in some key areas.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the promise of a laid-back isekai adventure. The premise of an ordinary guy suddenly thrust into a noble role with immense magical power is appealing. However, as I delved deeper, I found myself questioning the main character's motivations, or rather, the lack thereof.
What Works Well
The world-building is definitely a strong point. I appreciated the author's attention to detail when it comes to the intricacies of aristocracy and the societal structures of this fantasy world. The slice-of-life elements, while sometimes slow, provide a relaxing backdrop to the occasional crises that our MC has to deal with. Some readers enjoy the harem aspect and find the characters engaging, even if the protagonist is sometimes "dragged into it." The light novel version seems to improve upon the web novel by reducing the dreaded "info dumps," which is a definite plus.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the protagonist himself. He often comes across as passive, simply going with the flow and allowing others to dictate his actions. While some might see this as an easygoing nature, I found it frustrating at times. It's hard to connect with a character who seems to lack any real ambition or drive beyond a comfortable life. The writing style can also be a bit clunky, with narration and dialogue sometimes blurring together in an awkward way. Moreover, the romantic development feels lacking, even with the harem tag.

"Hachinan tte, Sore wa Nai Deshou! (LN)" is a decent read if you're looking for a relaxing, low-stakes isekai story with a focus on world-building and slice-of-life elements. However, if you prefer a proactive protagonist with clear goals and a more engaging plot, you might find yourself disappointed. It's a 3/5 for me – enjoyable in parts, but ultimately held back by its flaws.
