"Wonderful Life After Exchanging Fate" promised a cozy blend of historical setting, a clever female lead, and, of course, delicious food. As someone who enjoys a good slice-of-life story with a dash of romance, I dove in with moderate expectations, and overall, it was a pleasant, if somewhat uneven, read.
First Impressions
The premise is certainly intriguing: a woman reborn not once, but twice, determined to avoid the pitfalls of her past life. This sets the stage for a story focused on family, business, and carving out one's own destiny. The early chapters were particularly engaging, showcasing the MC's resourcefulness and her dedication to her family.
What Works Well
The food! Descriptions of the dishes were vivid, and the MC's culinary skills were undeniably a driving force in the narrative. I also appreciated the slow-burn romance. The male lead, a "war god" type, showed genuine respect for the MC's wishes and desires, even going so far as to offer her a pre-signed divorce agreement to ensure her freedom within the marriage. This was a surprisingly touching gesture that highlighted his deep affection for her. The tone is generally light and easy to read, making it a good choice if you're looking for something not too heavy.
Areas of Concern
While the story is enjoyable, it does have its flaws. The ending felt rather abrupt, leaving several plot threads unresolved. What happened to all the houses she collected? The antagonists' fates? We just don't know. The MC's characterization also felt inconsistent at times. Her desire for a simple life clashed with her constant expansion of her business, which some found hypocritical. I also noticed a few mentions of plot holes and abandoned storylines, such as the water filter the FL created.
