We're thrown into Ji Wanbai's world, a modern doctor who suddenly finds herself in the body of Yun Yinglu, a jewelry merchant's daughter in ancient China. The setup is fast-paced, and I immediately wanted to know how she'd navigate this completely different world, especially given her medical expertise. The hints of romance with multiple potential suitors also piqued my interest.
What Works Well
The focus on Ji Wanbai's medical knowledge, particularly in gynecology, is a breath of fresh air. It's not often that you find a story that delves into these topics, and I appreciate the novel's apparent message of empowering women and removing shame surrounding women's health. I also enjoyed the dynamic between Ji Wanbai and the three men vying for her attention: Qin Lun, the playful shop owner; Du Zibin, the conflicted ex-fiancé; and Liu Xuanchen, the Emperor who is intrigued by her despite believing her to be a male physician. The translator seems to be doing a great job, which definitely enhances the reading experience.
