My Thoughts on Warui Ko no Susume
"Warui Ko no Susume" definitely caught my eye with its intriguing premise and that eye-catching cover. A school breeding grounds for genius, a ruthless ranking system, and a pair of protagonists plotting revenge? Sign me up! But after diving in, I found the experience a bit more complex than I initially anticipated.
First Impressions
The initial setup is undeniably captivating. This isn't your average school life story. The school's environment is harsh, almost dystopian, with blatant discrimination and teachers who seem more interested in crushing spirits than nurturing them. It’s a breeding ground for resentment, and the MC and FMC's desire for revenge feels justified. The whole idea of taking down this system is pretty awesome.
What Works Well
The dynamic between the main characters is a definite highlight. Their shared goal of dismantling the oppressive school environment creates a strong bond, and watching their plan unfold can be quite satisfying. The story really shines when it focuses on their interactions and the clever ways they challenge the established order. When the story is focused on the revenge plot, it's pretty engaging.
Areas of Concern
However, the execution isn't always perfect. There are moments where the narrative feels a bit forced, particularly when it comes to adding drama or tension between the MC and FMC. Instead of a natural progression of their relationship, some conflicts seem artificially injected, which detracts from the overall flow. The world-building, while intriguing, could also benefit from more depth and consistency. The story sometimes skirts the line between being dark and edgy, but doesn't quite commit, leaving some aspects feeling underdeveloped.
