- Tsuihou Sareta Bannou Mahou Kenshi wa, Koujou Denka no Shishou Tonaru

Description
“I want to be like you.” Solon, who has been exiled by his comrades, met the secluded and lonely princess, Philia. “I had met you once,” she said. She always believed his words that as long you got magic knowledge, you could be free. With the request of his former instructor, Solon became an instructor for that girl. To protect the girl from assassins, they were sleeping together inside a room with a barrier. They went everywhere together. From choosing magic staffs to fighting ghosts. With that, Philia’s training as a magician has started, but it looked like the main figure of the empire’s schemes was starting to move… A magic swordsman who was despised because of his versatility and more so, his inferior skills, met with the uncommon princess.

Tsuihou Sareta Bannou Mahou Kenshi wa, Koujou Denka no Shishou Tonaru Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Tsuihou Sareta Bannou Mahou Kenshi wa, Koujou Denka no Shishou Tonaru
This title, which translates to "The Banished Omnipotent Magic Swordsman Becomes the Princess's Teacher," had me intrigued by its premise, but my reading experience has been a bit of a mixed bag. It's got some charm, but also some noticeable issues that held me back from fully enjoying it.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the familiar trope of the exiled hero turned tutor. It's a setup that can lead to interesting character interactions and world-building, and this story seemed to be heading in that direction. The early chapters introduce a world with social hierarchies and some hints of discrimination, which I found promising.
What Works Well
I did appreciate the hints of a larger plot brewing beneath the surface, concerning the aristocracy and the protagonist's initial exile. The idea of a well-rounded, non-specialized hero being essential to a party's success is also a nice touch. The female characters, despite their flaws, do bring a certain energy to the story. Some readers might appreciate the rom-com fluff.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the writing style became a significant hurdle for me. The dialogue often felt stiff and unnatural, more like a report than a conversation. This lack of immersion made it difficult to connect with the characters and their relationships. The character interactions felt lifeless, and the characters felt robotic.
I also had some concerns about the age gaps between the protagonist and his potential love interests. While some might argue that this is a fantasy world with different social norms, I found the dynamic a bit unsettling at times.

Final Verdict
Overall, Tsuihou Sareta Bannou Mahou Kenshi wa, Koujou Denka no Shishou Tonaru has potential, but it's held back by its writing style and potentially problematic character dynamics. While some may find enjoyment in the familiar tropes and hints of a larger plot, I would suggest approaching this one with caution. The rom-com fluff is enjoyable, but not particularly exciting.
