Okay, so I dove into "The Villainess Won’t Let the Main Leads Break Up!" with a healthy dose of skepticism, given the crowded 'villainess' genre. But, I quickly found myself surprisingly hooked. The premise is simple: a transmigrator, Shen Wanqing, is tasked with keeping the original protagonists together, but her attempts to meddle lead her into a chaotic and hilarious entanglement with the villain, Xie Wuyan.
What Works Well
The absolute standout for me is the humor. I found myself genuinely laughing out loud at the FL's antics and her interactions with the ML. She's not your typical cold or calculating villainess; she's more of a "shameless, thick-faced" protagonist who somehow manages to charm even the most dangerous characters. The ML is equally captivating. He doesn't immediately fall for the FL, which I really appreciated. Their relationship develops gradually, filled with witty banter and a slow-burn romance that feels earned. I also really loved that the original protagonists weren't demonized. They were genuinely good people, which added a refreshing twist to the story.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, I do have a few minor gripes. The ending felt a little rushed. I would have loved to see more development, especially regarding the system and the side characters. I also felt that the ending didn’t give enough retribution to the Heavenly Dao sect for their atrocious acts.
