My Thoughts on The Editor Is the Novel’s Extra
"The Editor Is the Novel’s Extra" presents an interesting premise: a protagonist transmigrating into a novel he's familiar with. While the concept hooked me, my experience has been a bit of a rollercoaster. There are definitely elements to appreciate, but also some aspects that held me back from fully enjoying the story.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the potential for a clever protagonist using his knowledge of the novel to his advantage. However, I quickly realized the MC's personality is a bit... complicated. He starts off wanting nothing to do with the main plot, which is understandable, but his methods of avoiding it sometimes felt childish and frustrating. It took me a while to warm up to him.
What Works Well
One of the strongest points, in my opinion, is the world-building. The political intrigue and the characters' motivations are well-developed. The author seems to draw inspiration from history and literature, adding depth to the narrative. I particularly enjoyed the relationships between the characters, especially the dynamic between the MC and Arthur, the original protagonist. It felt genuine and compelling. Also, the magic system, with its reliance on poetic chants, is a unique and captivating touch. The antagonists, particularly Melchior, are also well-written, adding a layer of danger and complexity to the story.
Areas of Concern
Despite the positives, I did find some areas of concern. The pacing can be slow at times, with lengthy descriptions and political maneuvering that might not appeal to all readers. Also, the MC's initial behavior, while realistic to some, can be frustrating, as he often seems passive and indecisive. I also noticed that some aspects of the translation seemed to be lacking later in the novel, which may be worth waiting for an update.

Final Verdict
Overall, "The Editor Is the Novel’s Extra" is a mixed bag. It has a unique premise, well-developed world-building, and compelling characters, but the slow pacing, frustrating protagonist, and translation issues hold it back. If you enjoy political intrigue, complex characters, and don't mind a slow burn, it might be worth checking out. However, be prepared for a protagonist who takes some getting used to and a story that requires patience.
