My Thoughts on Starting a New Life for the Discarded All-Rounder
First Impressions
Okay, so I dove into "Starting a New Life for the Discarded All-Rounder" with some mixed expectations. The cover art is undeniably fluffy and cute, promising a heartwarming tale. The premise of a discarded all-rounder finding his place in the world definitely piqued my interest. However, after reading a fair bit, I can see why opinions are somewhat divided on this one.
What Works Well
The world-building is pretty solid. I found myself appreciating the author's attention to detail in crafting this fantasy setting. There's a good blend of familiar tropes and fresh ideas, creating a world that feels both comfortable and intriguing. The interactions between the characters, especially with the gryphon, are fun and entertaining. The translation is also really well done, which definitely enhances the reading experience.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the pacing is a major issue for me. It's slow. Like, glacially slow. It often feels like I'm wading through molasses, and progress is minimal even after several chapters. This is compounded by a tendency to repeat information, sometimes verbatim, which can be incredibly frustrating. It feels like the author doesn't trust the reader to remember what happened two paragraphs ago.
The MC, while intended to be sympathetic, can come across as overly self-pitying. His low self-esteem, while understandable given his backstory, can become tiresome after a while. The plot, while potentially interesting, gets bogged down in unnecessary details and drawn-out explanations.

Final Verdict
"Starting a New Life for the Discarded All-Rounder" has potential, but it's currently held back by its slow pacing, repetitive writing, and somewhat frustrating protagonist. If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed adventure, this isn't it. However, if you enjoy a slow-burn slice-of-life story with a focus on world-building and character interactions (especially with the gryphon!), you might find something to enjoy here. For me, it's a 3/5. I'm hoping the author will address some of these issues and allow the story to truly shine.
