Description

My Thoughts on Sonne
"Sonne" promised a sweet yuri romance set against the backdrop of school life and the glamorous world of modeling, and for the most part, it delivered. I found myself drawn into the lives of the two main characters, Saki and Sanin, and their budding relationship. The story is complete, which is always a plus, and the ongoing translation is making it accessible to a wider audience.
First Impressions
The initial premise, hinting at the absurdity of their situation as described in the synopsis, piqued my interest. I was eager to see how the author would explore the emotional complexities arising from their unique circumstances. The promise of drama intertwined with romance had me hooked from the start.
What Works Well
The cuteness factor is definitely present. The interactions between Saki and Sanin are heartwarming, and the development of their relationship is generally well-paced in the beginning. There's a definite charm to the school life setting, and the glimpses into the modeling world add a layer of intrigue. When the story focuses on the core relationship, it shines.
Areas of Concern
However, I did feel that the plot became overly cluttered at times. The author seemed to introduce plot twists that, while adding drama, ultimately felt unnecessary and detracted from the central romance. Some of these twists felt a bit too forced, almost as if they were included for shock value rather than to organically advance the story. I would have liked to see more emphasis on the emotional impact of their unique situation, which felt somewhat glossed over in favor of these dramatic events.
