Description
He uses desire to ensnare others, he uses blood as temptation, he uses his appearance as a disguise. Like a wolf, he hunts for prey in the shadows. He is among the FBI’s most wanted list of serial killers. He lives by his own law, the Lex Talionis. He does things his own way, independent and reckless. He gave himself his own name: Sha Qing ———— The first time the two officially met: “The purpose of the prison is not to destroy people’s lives; it’s meant to replace the broken chains of law and morality, to bind the beast in their hearts again, until it is completely subdued,” said Leo. “Everyone has beasts in their hearts, agent, and so do you.” Sha Qing extended an index finger and pointed at Leo’s heart. “Yes, but unlike you, I will use those iron chains to lock it tightly in a cage.” “It’s not as easy as you think, Leo. Things are always changing, and often beyond your control …” With his blood-stained lips, he suddenly kissed the stunned FBI agent. The salty bloody taste spread in their mouths and the fiery contact was enough to burn the tips of their tongues. Leo’s eyes suddenly felt heavy, but his face did not show any irritation from being calculated upon. “Have you foreseen this in your plans ?” He raised his wrist with effort, then slowly closed his eyes. Sha Qing looked down and saw that a pair of steel handcuffs had fastened his left wrist with the other’s right arm. He lowered his head and kissed the sleeping man’s wet, dusty hair, and said in a soft voice: “Goodbye, brave young lion.” He then dislocated his own hand to remove the shackles that bound them together. Sha Qing stood up and walked away, until his figure disappeared into the darkness…

My Thoughts on Sha Qing
"Sha Qing" is a wild ride, a dark and twisted dance between an FBI agent and a serial killer who only targets other serial killers. It's a novel that grabbed my attention from the start with its morally grey characters and intriguing premise, and while it wasn't a perfect read, it certainly left a lasting impression.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were a breath of fresh air. I was immediately drawn into the cat-and-mouse game between Leo, the straight-laced FBI agent, and Sha Qing, the enigmatic vigilante killer. The author masterfully sets the stage, creating a world where justice is a blurry concept and the lines between good and evil are constantly shifting. The sexual tension was palpable, and I was eager to see how their relationship would unfold.
What Works Well
The biggest strength of "Sha Qing" lies in its characters. Sha Qing is a captivating antihero, charismatic and cunning, with a twisted sense of justice that's both horrifying and strangely compelling. His interactions with Leo are electric, full of witty banter and underlying power struggles. I appreciated how the author explored the psychological depths of both characters, delving into their motivations and inner conflicts. The fast-paced plot, filled with twists and turns, kept me hooked. The cases they solved, while sometimes superficial, were generally interesting and provided ample opportunities for the characters to clash and grow. The "reversible" aspect of the couple was also a refreshing change, adding another layer of complexity to their relationship.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, there were a few aspects that didn't quite hit the mark for me. The middle portion of the novel, where Sha Qing adopts a "fake identity," felt a bit drawn out and less engaging than the rest. I also felt that the ending, while satisfying for some, was somewhat rushed and glossed over some potentially interesting plot threads. Some parts of the novel are locked due to censorship laws regarding gore and sexual content which may be off putting for some readers.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Sha Qing" is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that I would recommend to readers who enjoy dark, morally ambiguous stories with complex characters and a heavy dose of suspense. It's not a light read, but it's definitely one that will stay with you long after you finish the last page. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
