The story wastes no time setting up the power dynamics between Luo Yu, the cold and calculating crime boss, and Su Jiawen, the mysterious man sold to him. The author masterfully sets the stage for a story where nothing is quite as it seems.

What Works Well

The biggest strength of this novel is its ability to subvert expectations. What seems like a typical gangster-falls-for-innocent trope quickly morphs into something far more complex. The characters are deliciously flawed, and their interactions are charged with tension. The devotion of the ML (Ruan Zheng) is intense and all-consuming, and the MC's (Luo Yu) journey from cold-hearted boss to someone capable of deep affection is compelling.
