My Thoughts on Revenge of the First Daughter
"Revenge of the First Daughter" promises a thrilling tale of reincarnation, political intrigue, and, of course, revenge. I dove in hoping for a captivating journey through ancient China, but my experience was mixed.
First Impressions
The initial setup is fairly standard for the genre: a wronged protagonist gets a second chance to rewrite history and exact vengeance on those who betrayed her. It's a formula that can be incredibly satisfying when executed well, and at first, I was intrigued by the possibilities.
What Works Well
Despite some of the criticisms I encountered, there were elements I appreciated. The male lead seems promising, and the fact that the protagonist isn't immediately overpowered is a refreshing change. Her reactions to encountering her enemies felt believable, adding a layer of realism to the narrative.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, several issues hampered my enjoyment. The plot sometimes felt convoluted, with the protagonist's schemes feeling unnatural. A significant issue, which I can't emphasize enough, is the translation quality. Comprehending the meaning of sentences often felt like a chore, and character genders and speakers were frequently unclear. This severely impacted my ability to become invested in the story.
Another element that didn't quite land for me was the perceived reliance of the main character on the male lead's strength. I prefer a female lead who can hold her own, and the story at times seemed to undermine her agency. Additionally, the introduction of multiple reincarnated individuals felt somewhat unnecessary and detracted from the main plot.

Final Verdict
Ultimately, "Revenge of the First Daughter" has potential, but it's currently held back by significant flaws. The poor translation is a major barrier to entry, and the somewhat convoluted plot and reliance on tropes might not appeal to all readers. Unless the translation improves drastically, I'd hesitate to recommend this one. It's a shame, because the core concept has promise, but the execution needs considerable work.
