Description

Su Lingyue was the treasured pearl of the Su family, notorious for her capricious and overbearing temperament, acting with unbridled willfulness. According to rumors from that sophomore year summer camp, she had publicly humiliated Ji Zhiyi in front of their classmates, calling her a beggar who was unworthy of sharing the same tent. Not long after returning to school, Ji Zhiyi quietly processed her withdrawal papers and disappeared without a trace. Many classmates speculated that she couldn’t bear the emotional trauma, shaking their heads in sympathy and regret. Years later, the Su Group underwent a sudden transformation—the company split in two, with half remaining in the Su family’s hands and half falling into Ji Zhiyi’s possession. Along with the company shares, Su Lingyue also fell under Ji Zhiyi’s authority. Everyone suspected Ji Zhiyi had come seeking revenge, eagerly waiting to witness Su Lingyue’s downfall. Su Lingyue herself shared this belief. On the day she brought Su Lingyue home, Ji Zhiyi personally designed a pair of princess shoes. Socialites in their circle buzzed with excitement, all vying to purchase them at premium prices. As the shoes’ value soared to astronomical heights, Ji Zhiyi retrieved them from their display case at the company’s annual gathering. Under everyone’s astonished gaze, she knelt down and, with meticulous care, placed them on Su Lingyue’s feet.

Princess Syndrome Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

My Thoughts on Princess Syndrome

"Princess Syndrome" promised a heartwarming yuri romance with a side of corporate intrigue, and after diving in, I have some thoughts. This novel definitely evoked some strong feelings, both positive and a little… conflicted.

First Impressions

Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of a devoted love interest and a story about personal growth. The early chapters set a nice pace, introducing the main characters and hinting at the schemes and conspiracies to come. I was eager to see how the relationship between Ji Zhiyi and Su Lingyue would unfold.

What Works Well

Many aspects of this novel shine. I found the development of Su Lingyue particularly compelling. Seeing her grow and evolve throughout the story was genuinely heartwarming. The writing is smart and engaging, and the plot, while sometimes dealing with complex corporation politics, generally serves the central love story well. I also appreciated the realistic feel of the narrative. The author manages to keep the story grounded, which made the characters and their relationships feel more believable. The pacing, for the most part, felt well-managed, with each chapter flowing smoothly into the next.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed many aspects of the novel, I also had some reservations. I found myself struggling with Ji Zhiyi's actions early on. Her intense pursuit of Su Lingyue sometimes felt a little… overzealous. I can see how some readers might find these actions problematic, even if they are framed as acts of love. I also felt that some of the side characters, while initially intriguing, could have been explored more fully. Certain characters seemed to fade into the background towards the end, which was a bit disappointing. And while the pacing was generally good, the ending felt somewhat rushed, leaving me wanting a bit more closure, especially regarding the interactions between Su Lingyue and Ji Zhiyi's family.

Final Verdict

Overall, "Princess Syndrome" is an engaging and well-written novel with a compelling central romance. Despite some reservations about certain character actions and a slightly rushed ending, I found the story to be a worthwhile read. If you enjoy heartwarming yuri romances with a touch of drama and don't mind some morally gray areas, you'll likely find something to love in this novel. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
