First Impressions
Right off the bat, I was drawn in by the promise of a "guy chases girl" trope with a doting, almost clingy, male lead. The synopsis hinted at a story filled with flashbacks, which intrigued me, but also gave me pause, as I've found that poorly executed flashbacks can be jarring. The tags like "beautiful female lead," "bodyguards," and "death of loved ones" painted a picture of a dramatic yet fluffy read, and I was eager to see if it lived up to that.
What Works Well
The undeniable strength of this novel lies in the interactions between the main characters, Nie Fei Zhan and Rong Mo. The male lead's devotion is definitely a highlight, and I can see why many readers describe their interactions as "dog food" – they're undeniably sweet! The female lead, despite her vulnerabilities stemming from past trauma and disabilities, is portrayed as inwardly strong, which I appreciated.
