My Thoughts on I Raised the Beast Well
"I Raised the Beast Well" promised a blend of fluff and fantasy, and while it delivered on some fronts, my experience was a bit of a mixed bag. It’s a story about Blondina, a girl raised in the slums who finds herself thrust into the Imperial Palace, and her relationship with a beastkin, Aymon.
First Impressions
Initially, I was charmed. The early chapters are undeniably cute, setting up a dynamic between Blondina and Aymon that feels like a Disney movie with a touch of darkness. The premise is intriguing, hinting at palace intrigue and the development of a sweet, protective relationship.
What Works Well
The strength of the story lies in the bond between the main characters. Many readers praised the fluffy moments and the way their relationship develops from childhood to adulthood. Aymon's possessiveness is portrayed as endearing rather than creepy, and Blondina is generally likeable and level-headed. The world-building is also commendable, creating a backdrop that balances dark themes with moments of levity. I appreciated that the story doesn't rely on tired tropes like a stupid female lead or an overly aggressive male lead. The pacing also keeps the story moving without unnecessary filler.
Areas of Concern
However, I can't ignore some significant issues raised by other readers. Plot holes and inconsistencies in character behavior are a recurring criticism. For example, the emperor's motivations seem to shift, and some character changes feel abrupt and unearned. But the biggest red flag for me is the later inclusion of non-consensual content. This jarringly clashes with the earlier tone of the story and left a very sour taste.

Final Verdict
"I Raised the Beast Well" has potential, with a charming premise and engaging early chapters. However, the inconsistencies in the plot and the inclusion of non-consensual scenes make it difficult to recommend wholeheartedly. If you're willing to overlook these issues and enjoy a blend of fluff and fantasy, it might be worth a try. But be aware of the potential triggers and prepare for a story that takes a dark turn. For me, the initial promise wasn't enough to outweigh the later problems.
