Description
After being separated from each other for 6 years since the death of their parents, fraternal twins Akito Himonokouji (brother) and Akiko Himonokouji (sister) had finally reunited together again during the holidays thanks to some planning from Akito, despite objections from both of their adoption families. Being happy that Akito had fulfilled his promise to be with her again, Akiko confessed readily that she had in*estuous love in Akito, and will not hesitate to do anything to win the love of Akito. Akito however does not harbor the same feeling for Akiko, and as a result had a headache with Akiko’s actions. Despite all these, he still loves Akiko as a sister, and finds her adorable and cute, especially when he had not seen her since she was 10 years old.

Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankeinai yo ne Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankeinai yo ne
First Impressions
Alright, let's dive into Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankeinai yo ne (which, let's be honest, is a mouthful, so I'll probably shorten it to Onii-chan Dakedo). Going in, I knew this was going to be a rom-com with some ecchi elements, and the premise itself definitely sets the stage for that. The whole "as long as there's love, brother-sister relationships don't matter" angle is… certainly a choice. But hey, I'm open to seeing where it goes.
What Works Well
The biggest draw for me, and what I think makes this series enjoyable, is the comedic aspect. Onii-chan Dakedo seems to lean heavily into the humor, and that's where it shines. The protagonist's antics, especially when it comes to teasing his "true love," can be genuinely funny. I also appreciate a protagonist with strong convictions, even if those convictions are a bit… unconventional. The series also seems to embrace its genre, offering plenty of cute and passionate moments that fans of rom-coms should appreciate.
Areas of Concern
While the comedy is a strong point, I have to admit the premise is a bit iffy, and the ecchi elements might not be for everyone. It's a fine line to walk, and whether Onii-chan Dakedo manages to do it successfully will likely depend on individual tastes. The fact that the anime adaptation apparently missed the mark is also a bit concerning.
Final Verdict
Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankeinai yo ne seems like a fun, albeit potentially problematic, rom-com with a strong emphasis on comedy. If you're a fan of the genre and don't mind some ecchi elements and a slightly controversial premise, it might be worth checking out. Just go in knowing what you're getting into, and maybe skip the anime adaptation. I'm giving it a tentative recommendation, leaning towards a 3/5. It has potential, but it's definitely not for everyone.
