Description

Alright, let's dive into "My Girlfriend’s Older Sister… Is My First Love, Who Has Changed." That title is a mouthful, isn't it? I went in with a healthy dose of skepticism, and honestly, the story is a bit of a rollercoaster. I can see why it has a mixed reception.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely… something. Our protagonist is dating a sweet, somewhat shy girl who's into literature and gaming – a total win in my book, frankly! But then, BAM! His childhood friend, who he also happened to have a first love crush on, reappears as his girlfriend's older step-sister. And she's not exactly subtle about her intentions. It's a recipe for drama, that's for sure.
What Works Well
Despite the potential for a complete train wreck, the author, Kimura, manages to make it… almost forgivable? The writing pulls you in, and I appreciated that the current girlfriend isn't portrayed as a terrible person. She's actually quite likable, which makes the situation even more complicated. I was also pleasantly surprised by the protagonist's moments of strength. He's not just a pushover; he actually stands up for himself sometimes, like when he confronts the older sister about her blackmail attempt. The fact that he immediately confesses to his girlfriend shows a level of integrity I wasn't expecting.
Areas of Concern
The "chance encounters" between the protagonist and his first love are a bit much. It stretches believability. Also, the older sister relies a bit too heavily on the damsel-in-distress trope, needing to be saved from aggressive guys. It makes you wonder how she's even survived this long. And while I appreciate the girlfriend's trusting nature, her timidity can be frustrating, especially when her step-sister is actively trying to steal her boyfriend!
