Description

Overall, I found it to be a fascinating, if occasionally uneven, read.

The premise immediately grabbed me: a girl with yin-yang eyes rooming with a death god? Sign me up! The early chapters introduce Sang Yu, our kind but somewhat timid protagonist, and Mu Rong, the stoic and seemingly emotionless death god. Their initial interactions are intriguing, setting the stage for a slow-burn romance amidst a backdrop of supernatural occurrences.
What Works Well
The character development is a major strength. Watching Mu Rong slowly open her heart and Sang Yu find her courage is genuinely rewarding. Even the supporting characters, like the demon-slaying cousin Sang Tong, the compassionate monk Su Sifang and the mysterious Ah Miao, feel fleshed out and contribute meaningfully to the story.
I particularly enjoyed the unique blend of mystical, wuxia, and xianxia elements. It's a refreshing change from the often-formulaic cultivation novels out there. The author clearly put a lot of thought into the world-building, creating a vibrant and engaging setting where ghosts have feelings and humans are just trying to survive.
