Description
1. There was an Alpha in the Second City High that was famous for being hard to deal with. Sleeping in school, fighting outside of school, Jiang Huai ranked first place on all of his teachers’ “student they most wanted to beat up” tier list, as well as first place on the Second City High’s student-voted generally acknowledged “most aggressive Alpha” tier list. It was said that Jiang Huai had once even forced an Omega he was interested in to transfer schools, almost giving them a permanent mark. But it was this Alpha with a bad record and bad behaviour, who was bumped into in the bathroom, that held a syringe in his hands, pushing specialised Omega pheromone suppressants into his veins. 2. The person from school that Jiang Huai didn’t see in a good light was Bo Jian—that guy, with the good family, good looks and good grades, who ranked first place on the Second City High’s student-voted “Alpha with the most appeal” tier list, and also on the “Alpha that people most wanted to date in the school” tier list. This type of useless pretty-faced men like Bo Jian, Jiang Huai could beat up with just one hand. Until that day in the male bathrooms, when Bo Jian bumped into him while he was injecting pheromone suppressants into his veins. His fist didn’t manage to land on Bo Jian’s face, but Bo Jian managed to pin his hands behind his back, his breath heavy on the nape of his neck, and said casually: “… Oh, you’re an Omega?” 3. Before a PE class in the summer. Bo Jian was cornered by Jiang Huai. “I don’t want to take suppressants, do me a favour and bite me.” Bo Jian smiled lightly. “On what basis?” Jiang Huai sniffed the cold and bitter, faint mint scent that tasted like a winter night, in the air. “On the basis that you intentionally used your pheromones to seduce me.”

Mark Me Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Mark Me
"Mark Me" is a web novel that I dove into with some excitement, given its blend of fantasy, romance, and school life. The ABO dynamic adds an extra layer of intrigue, and I was curious to see how the story would unfold. Overall, it's been an interesting read, though not without its hitches.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the world-building and the hints of a deeper plot. The slice-of-life aspects are well-executed, and I enjoyed getting to know the characters, especially the MC's sister, who is a standout. The translation quality is also commendable, with helpful footnotes that enhance the reading experience. I found myself easily immersed in the story.
What Works Well
The high school romance aspect is well-trodden ground, but "Mark Me" manages to put its own spin on it. The personal drama surrounding the MC adds a welcome layer of conflict and emotional depth. There's a good balance between the lighthearted moments of school life and the more serious undertones related to family and societal expectations. I appreciate the author's ability to create a believable and engaging world.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the male lead. His characterization leans a little too heavily into the "annoyingly persistent" trope, and I found myself increasingly frustrated with his behavior. The MC's reactions, or lack thereof, also contributed to my unease. While I understand the enemies-to-lovers dynamic, the ML's constant disregard for the MC's boundaries felt less like playful banter and more like outright inconsideration. This dynamic made it hard for me to root for their relationship. I felt like the ML was a flat character whose only purpose was to pester the MC and make him uncomfortable.
Final Verdict
"Mark Me" has the potential to be a great read, but the problematic dynamic between the leads holds it back. If you enjoy the "persistent ML" trope, you might find this story more appealing than I did. However, if you prefer your romances with a healthy dose of mutual respect and consideration, you might want to proceed with caution. Despite my reservations, I'm still curious to see where the plot goes, so I'll be keeping an eye on future developments.
