My Thoughts on Mannen D-rank No Chuunen Boukensha, Yotta Ikioi De Densetsu No Ken Wo Hikkonuku
This title, which I'm just going to call "Drunk Dad and the Holy Sword" for my sanity, is quite the ride. It's a fantasy adventure with a healthy dose of comedy, ecchi elements, and, yes, a harem. While the premise might sound like your typical isekai power fantasy, there are some interesting twists that kept me engaged.
First Impressions
Initially, I was wary. The sheer number of tags – "dense protagonist," "breast fetish," and "harem-seeking protagonist" – set off some alarm bells. I've read enough of these types of stories to know they can be a mixed bag. However, I decided to give it a fair shot, and I'm glad I did.
What Works Well
One of the most refreshing aspects of "Drunk Dad and the Holy Sword" is the MC's surprisingly human thought process. Unlike so many dense protagonists who seem oblivious to the world around them, this guy actually feels like a real person with relatable insecurities. The humor is also a strong point. The sentient holy sword, with its own agenda and tendency to tease the MC about his denseness, adds a unique comedic layer. The author deserves credit for finding a fresh spin on well-worn tropes. The plot, while not groundbreaking, is consistently engaging, and I found myself looking forward to each new chapter. And the lovable characters with unique personalities certainly made the experience worthwhile.
Areas of Concern
The translation quality appears to be a significant issue. Some readers have mentioned problems with gendered pronouns being used incorrectly, which can be jarring and confusing. It's something to be aware of if you decide to pick up this novel. Also, the MC's reliance on alcohol to advance the plot may get tiresome for some readers. His reaction to deadly situations can also feel underwhelming, making him seem a bit bland at times.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Drunk Dad and the Holy Sword" offers a surprisingly enjoyable reading experience. The humor, the somewhat relatable MC, and the unique twist on the harem trope make it stand out from the crowd. However, be prepared for some translation issues and potentially off-putting plot developments. Overall, I'd recommend giving it a try if you're looking for a lighthearted and somewhat silly fantasy adventure.
