Description
Thinking that he was the man’s true love, he naively handed over his sincerity, only to realize that that he himself was the protagonist of the most disgusting story about a body double. He was unable to control himself, he wanted to kill off that person who looked exactly like him. Only that the lover he had been with for the past year or so, had raised his gun and shot him dead. In that split moment of pain and cold, the heat of being pierced by the bullet had scorched into his heart, carved onto his bones, so deep that he would never ever be able to start over new. Yet he still lived; could even empty his heart and step back, could even openly laugh. Just as if nothing had even changed. But under the rambler roses, the former lover stepped out from the past year, his eyes slowly fixed on him, as he assumed a cold posture to question him. The weakness at the bottom of his eyes hidden behind the thousands of mountains and rivers of the difficult journey. Gu Han Liang then said: “It doesn’t matter to me if you don’t forgive, don’t believe, or don’t accept. Just let it be as if you lent yourself to me. If you hate it, if you feel sad, then go back at once. I will not force you a second time.” He didn’t reply, but his heart trembled. The man’s kiss pressed onto his forehead, and the deep voice sounded again. “If you don’t hate it and don’t feel sad, then lend me a lifetime.”

My Thoughts on Lend Me A Lifetime
"Lend Me A Lifetime" is a novel that certainly evokes strong reactions, and diving into it was quite the experience. With its blend of mature themes, romance, and yaoi elements set against a backdrop of gangs and organized crime, it promises a rollercoaster of emotions. While some aspects intrigued me, others left me feeling rather… conflicted.
First Impressions
The premise itself is undeniably dramatic: a protagonist asked to "lend a lifetime" to the man who shot him. This immediately throws you into a world of intense emotions and complex relationships. The initial chapters focus on the aftermath of this event, with flashbacks gradually filling in the backstory. I appreciated the attempt to build suspense, but I also felt a bit disoriented by the non-linear narrative at first.
What Works Well
The translation quality is definitely a highlight. The language is evocative, and the translators seem to have captured the nuances of the original text effectively. This allows the emotional beats to land with greater impact, making the angsty moments truly resonate. The dynamic between the characters, despite its flaws, also has a certain pull. The possessiveness and intensity of the male lead, while potentially problematic, create a compelling, albeit twisted, dynamic.
Areas of Concern
However, I have some reservations about the plot and character development. The characters' actions sometimes felt inconsistent and unmotivated. The forgiveness between the MC and ML seemed rushed, lacking the necessary emotional groundwork. The story's reliance on misunderstandings, coupled with poor communication, created unnecessary drama that occasionally felt frustrating. The motivations of some supporting characters also appeared flimsy, making their actions feel unearned.

Final Verdict
"Lend Me A Lifetime" is a novel with potential, but it ultimately falls short due to its underdeveloped plot and questionable character motivations. While the translation is excellent and the angst is palpable, the story's reliance on problematic tropes and rushed resolutions makes it a difficult read to fully embrace. If you're seeking a purely dog-blood experience with a high tolerance for questionable relationship dynamics, this might pique your interest. However, if you prioritize nuanced characters and a well-developed plot, you might find yourself wanting more.
