My Thoughts on Kensei and Saintess
Okay, buckle up, because "Kensei and Saintess" is… a ride. I went into this one expecting a classic fantasy adventure, maybe with some mature themes, but it definitely took some unexpected turns. It's a completed original work, so I was hoping for a satisfying conclusion, but the journey itself is, shall we say, complicated.
First Impressions
My initial impression was a bit jarring. The story throws you right into a world of heroes and demon lords, which is familiar territory. However, it quickly becomes apparent that this isn't your typical heroic narrative. There's a certain… darkness that permeates the story, and the protagonist isn't exactly what you'd call brave or competent. It’s definitely a mature story, and it doesn't shy away from exploring some potentially uncomfortable themes.
What Works Well
The world-building is actually pretty decent. I found myself drawn into the fantasy setting, and the concept of heroes battling a demon lord is always appealing. The pacing, at least in the beginning, kept me engaged, eager to see where the story would go.
Areas of Concern
Honestly, the biggest issue I had was the protagonist. He's portrayed as a coward, and his decisions sometimes felt baffling. I struggled to connect with him, which made it difficult to fully invest in the story. The plot also ventures into some questionable territory, with elements that some readers might find distasteful. I think the author was going for a morally grey area, but it didn't always land for me. I also feel like the author may have emphasized the mature aspects of the story too much at the expense of the plot and character development.

Final Verdict
"Kensei and Saintess" is definitely not for everyone. It's a mature fantasy story that pushes boundaries and explores darker themes. If you're looking for a lighthearted adventure, this isn't it. However, if you're willing to delve into a morally complex world with flawed characters, it might be worth checking out. Just be prepared for a potentially uncomfortable and challenging read. I'd say it's a 3 out of 5 stars from me – interesting, but flawed.
