My Thoughts on It’s a Little Late, but I’ve Fallen in Love With My Childhood Friend
"It’s a Little Late, but I’ve Fallen in Love With My Childhood Friend" promises a sweet, potentially angsty, romance with a twist. As someone who enjoys a good dose of slice-of-life with my love stories, I was eager to dive in.
First Impressions
The premise, childhood friends finding love later in life, is a classic for a reason. It's comforting and familiar. I was hoping for a heartwarming story with a few unexpected turns, and the early chapters seemed to deliver on that promise. The setup is well-executed and the characters are likable enough to keep me invested.
What Works Well
One aspect I genuinely appreciated was the strength of the female lead, Hikari. She isn’t portrayed as naive or passive. She's proactive and stands her ground, making her a refreshing change from some of the more stereotypical female leads I've encountered. The male lead, Yuu-Chan (also known as Taku), is also portrayed as a believable character, one who isn’t completely oblivious to Hikari's existence, which is a definite plus. The dynamic between Hikari and Yuu-Chan is well-written, and their interactions feel natural and engaging.
Areas of Concern
While the novel initially hooked me, the overall rating does give me some pause. While the story is good, and the characters are well-written, there is a lot of room to grow.

Final Verdict
"It’s a Little Late, but I’ve Fallen in Love With My Childhood Friend" has potential. The strong female lead, believable male lead, and unexpected plot twists definitely set it apart from other similar novels. However, the story is still ongoing, so whether the author is able to successfully bring all of the storylines together in a satisfying manner remains to be seen. If you're looking for a romance with a bit more substance and aren't afraid of some heavier themes, this might be worth checking out.
