My Thoughts on Isekai de Slow Life wo (Ganbou)
"Isekai de Slow Life wo (Ganbou)"... the title itself promises a relaxed, wish-fulfillment journey. And while it delivers on some aspects, my experience was a bit of a rollercoaster. The 'Ganbou' part, as some readers pointed out, is crucial. Our protagonist wants a slow life, but the universe seems to have other plans, constantly throwing him into situations that require effort and action.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise. A protagonist aiming for a peaceful existence in another world, armed with crafting skills and a daily allowance. The initial chapters, however, were a bit rough. The translation, especially in the earlier volumes, felt clunky and difficult to follow, almost like reading a machine translation. It definitely took some effort to push through the first volume.
What Works Well
Despite the initial hurdles, there were elements I found enjoyable. The protagonist, while flawed, is generally kind-hearted. His crafting abilities and the way he uses them to improve the lives of those around him are endearing. I also appreciated the descriptions of cooking. The story shines when it focuses on these aspects, creating a cozy and engaging atmosphere. The world-building, while not groundbreaking, is sufficient to support the narrative. The story progresses with him meeting up with several people, and being dragged into events/story progression. Although because of his nature, he'll always stick to inside a safe environment more than actually "adventuring".

The protagonist's inconsistencies were a major issue for me. His desire for a harem clashes with his seemingly passive nature. The way he acquires and treats his "s*aves" felt problematic. There's a lack of genuine connection and equal attention given to all the members of his harem. Some reviewers felt that his interactions with the female characters were sometimes borderline inappropriate. Also, the translation, while improving, still suffers from occasional grammatical errors.
