First Impressions
Okay, that title is a mouthful, right? But it definitely piqued my interest. The premise – rejected childhood friend turns scheming mastermind – sounds like a fun twist on a classic trope. I dove in expecting a lighthearted, possibly comedic, story about self-improvement and maybe a little revenge.
What Works Well
The core concept is definitely the strongest point. I enjoyed seeing Shinya's transformation. It's always satisfying to watch a character pick themselves up after a setback and reinvent themselves. The comedic undertones were also a plus. It kept the story from getting too bogged down in melodrama, which I appreciated. The idea of him becoming a "scheming guy with glasses" specifically because of the rejection is inherently funny, and the story leans into that. It's a quick, easy read that offers a bit of escapism.

Honestly, the biggest letdown was the ending. It felt rushed and incomplete. The story builds up this interesting new persona for Shinya, but it doesn't really deliver on the potential of that transformation.
