Okay, so I dove into "I Have a Cultivation World" with a healthy dose of skepticism. The premise – a cultivation world with modern influences – sounded interesting, but I've been burned by similar concepts before. Initially, I found myself agreeing with the readers who described the beginning as "average." The MC felt a bit bland, just going with the flow. It wasn't grabbing me right away, but I decided to stick with it.
What Works Well
I'm glad I did! As I got further in, the world-building really started to shine. The author does a great job of blending the xianxia elements with modern technology. One of my favorite aspects is the integration of cultivation into everyday life, like using arrays and talismans to create a global internet network. It’s a unique twist that sets this novel apart. I also appreciated the slow, steady pace. The MC isn't an instant genius, and his growth feels more realistic. I also like how the story incorporates elements of kingdom building, as the MC rises in power and brings innovations from his modern world to the cultivation world. It's a wish-fulfillment novel, sure, but it's done in a way that feels more like a "slice of life" than a power fantasy.
Areas of Concern
While I ultimately enjoyed the novel, it's not without its flaws. The early chapters are a bit slow, and it takes a while for the story to really take off. I also found the characterization to be somewhat lacking. While the MC is relatable, he can also be annoying and hypocritical at times. The romance elements, while present, are not the best. It is a harem, which may not be for everyone.
