My Thoughts on Here Comes the King of the Underworld!
First Impressions
Okay, so "Here Comes the King of the Underworld!" is another isekai story, and I went in with relatively neutral expectations. The premise of a reincarnated protagonist wielding death magic definitely piqued my interest, and the 'antihero' tag suggested a potentially darker and more morally ambiguous narrative, which I always appreciate. The initial chapters were intriguing enough to keep me reading, but the real question was whether it could maintain that initial promise.
What Works Well
The MC, Shu, is a definite highlight. I found his apathetic and clever personality to be a refreshing change from the typical overpowered-but-naive isekai protagonist. The magic system itself seems well-developed, incorporating elements of science and knowledge from his previous life, which adds a layer of depth. I also liked the dynamic between Shu and Iris, the female lead. While she may be naive, it's apparently not to the point of being annoying, and some even found their interactions comedic and complementing. The action sequences are enjoyable, and I appreciate the lack of a harem – a single, focused romantic interest is often preferable in my book.
Areas of Concern
The translation seems to be a significant point of contention. I've seen complaints about inconsistent names and terminology, which can definitely disrupt the reading experience. Additionally, some readers felt that the enemies were often portrayed as unintelligent, essentially throwing themselves at the MC. This lack of challenge could diminish the overall sense of stakes and tension. The plot progression was also called out as being too quick, and the world-building was not as fleshed out as it could have been.

Final Verdict
"Here Comes the King of the Underworld!" has some strong points, particularly the MC's character and the magic system. However, the inconsistent translation and perceived lack of challenging antagonists are potential drawbacks. If you're looking for a dark isekai with a clever protagonist and don't mind some translation quirks, this might be worth a shot. However, be prepared for a potentially uneven experience and a plot that might feel rushed at times. Overall, I'd say it's a decent read if you temper your expectations.
