First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the protagonist's unique situation. The early chapters hinted at a character who might subvert some of the genre's more well-worn tropes. However, as I progressed, I found myself experiencing some of the same frustrations I’ve seen other readers express.
What Works Well
The initial world-building is quite intriguing. The author paints a vivid picture of the cultivation world, and the early introduction of alchemy and supernatural elements definitely piqued my interest. There's a clear sense of progression as the protagonist begins to uncover her talents and navigate the complex social landscape. Also, the comedic elements sprinkled throughout the story provided a welcome break from the more serious plot points.
Areas of Concern
However, I felt that the story started to falter as it progressed. I found myself getting increasingly frustrated with the female lead's decision-making. She often seems to rush headfirst into situations without fully considering the consequences, which, at times, felt at odds with her supposed genius. I also noticed that the jealous female characters and men coveting the protagonist for her beauty felt a bit repetitive and, frankly, tiresome. It felt like these elements were overused, detracting from the more interesting aspects of the plot.
