Description
The world is terrorized by the powerful Black Witch who has been sealed in the moon. Every ten years, the night of Hexennacht arrives and a chosen witch must battle the Black Witch in hopes of finally defeating her. As the current decade’s Hexennacht approaches, a mysterious girl named Kagami. Kagami arrives and meets Horinouchi Mitsuru, the daughter of the previous Hexennacht representative. It takes place between Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon and the City Series, two other series by the author.

My Thoughts on Gekitotsu no Hexennacht
After diving into "Gekitotsu no Hexennacht," I've come away with a mixed, but ultimately positive, impression. This series, penned by Kawakami Minoru, the author of Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon, promises a blend of action, fantasy, and a dash of yuri, all set in a unique world where magic, or Ether, is commonplace.
First Impressions
My initial reaction was definitely intrigued. The premise is captivating: a world where women, known as Witches, hold the power due to their offensive magical capabilities, while men are relegated to defensive roles. Add in a looming apocalyptic threat in the form of a sealed "Black Witch" and a tournament arc to determine the strongest witch, and you've got my attention. It felt like a fresh take on the magical girl genre.
What Works Well
The world-building is definitely a strong point. The author's detailed descriptions really painted a vivid picture of the world. The action sequences are another highlight. They're described with a level of detail that makes them feel truly engaging. I also appreciated the illustrations scattered throughout the novel, which added another layer of immersion.
