Description

"Fragrance Beauty" promised a captivating blend of reincarnation, revenge, and imperial intrigue, and while it delivered on some fronts, it also left me with mixed feelings. It's definitely a story that evokes strong reactions, and I can see why readers are so divided.
First Impressions
The premise is certainly intriguing: a protagonist who dies unjustly, is reborn into a new identity, and enters the palace to seek revenge. The initial chapters drew me in with the promise of palace politics and a determined female lead. I was eager to see how Rujin would navigate the treacherous world of the imperial harem using her skills in fragrance.
What Works Well
Many readers praised the intricate plot and the well-developed world. I agree that the author does a great job of creating a believable and engaging ancient Chinese setting. Rujin herself is a compelling character, calm and intelligent, and I found myself rooting for her as she climbed the ranks within the palace. The author's writing style and the translator's work were consistently mentioned as strengths, making the story easy to read despite its complexities.
